My Heritage Face

Tuesday, March 28

zH: U go back hall study?? Sure sleep one lor. U will go back, rest for a while, fall asleep. Then when u wake up, it's evening already, slack a bit, then as u are about to study, TV got shows liao. Then u will not study.

!!!

I managed to study abit ok... haa yeah a bit. But after spending lotsa time on reading exchange rates and realising I have no idea on exchange rate translations, I decided I need some motivation. Maybe... I will look like some celebrities! (Erm well, looking like some celebrities shouldn't have any linkage to my motivation to study, but I need to link to my topic here leh...) Therefore, I went to do the My Heritage Face Recognition thingy. Haa!

Let's see...
Round One
Image hosting by Photobucket
Photo used: Resume photo (yeah yeah, the one that was photoshopped by the uncle)
Michelle Yeoh?? And who is greg louganis?? Hmm... Can I have better results please?

Round Two
Image hosting by Photobucket

Photo used: Some self-taken photo
Eh I really dunno ang moh stars one... Billy Idol is a real idol a not? Can I just have the idol title? And just now is michelle yeoh, now is lucy liu... All the fighting women ah... (Oops, I didn't crop the image thoroughly!)

Round Three
Image hosting by Photobucket

Photo used: Celebration for grace's bdae at the clarke quay place...

Alamak! Can give me more yandao ones?? Yeah elle macpherson is chio chio, but erm, quincy? Grrr... Not fun one! *Hrrmpt* I am getting a bit sick of this thingy liao, so I decided to try group pics for a change.

Round Four
Image hosting by Photobucket

Photo used: AB312 group photo
I believe my groupmates won't mind me putting this photo up, coz all of them got chio bus instantly. Katie Leung is the girl in Harry Potter movie, Zhang Ziyi and Sammi Cheng shouldn't be strangers to u all. As for my Leon Lai, I admit, it's not the first pic for me. But it's the only male celebrity when I selected Gender: Male. Finally, I looked like some male celebrity I know!

Round Five
Image hosting by Photobucket
Photo used: Grace's birthday celebration
Dun have me inside, but supposedly there are 4 chio bus inside. At least, this program recognised 50% of them as chio bus!
As for smint n grace, I dunno ah... Maybe its the specs that u 2 are wearing?
But hoi also wearing specs!
Erm, then i really dunno... haha... (For Grace's 53% lookalike, I didn't scroll all the way to the end to select Larry King! This 53% face is really the first face that popped up for Grace's!)

Round Six
Image hosting by Photobucket
Photo used: Platoon KTV outing
I can't see how my sgt looks like Gong Li here lor! The program really gong gong lor!

Round Seven
Image hosting by Photobucket
Photo used: Hall Olympiad Opening @ SRC
Ok I got someone I know and is a male celebrity, but should I cry? Never mind, I shall be the next film-maker in SG... And who's my cast? PQ, who looks like Sammi Cheng here lor! =P
And seriously, why does the program recognise SC's face in the background, when honestly, he's just a background in this pic? Can't the developers make this program to give better face recognition (like more yandaos) instead of recognising background faces??

FInal Round
Image hosting by Photobucket
Photo used: Wedding @ Hotel Inn Atrium
CK, I think stephen chow isn't too ugly la. And as for me, I got a female celebrity again... With this, I conclude that my face is a little bit sharp, therefore this program gives me more female stars. I guess I will be as chio as those supermodels everywhere if I disguise myself as a female! Haa...

Well, at least I look like Leon Lai in one of the photos!

Yippie! I have going to Taiwan soon, with smint, xm n zh! Naruwan...~ I have been to taiwan before during NS, which is still one of the most memorable experiences I have today! So now, I'll be going back there again! Taiwan, here I come! Of course, there's still the exams, but then, my departure date is like in 1-2 months time, so it's really quite soon la.

The travel fair was worth it, despite the huge crowds and the get-lost-easily feeling. We booked our package with Hong Tai as it seemed to be the best. In fact, I saw a friend and a relative there, who mentioned Hong Thai here and there. One of the salesman from another tour company even sorta mentioned Hong Tai in a brief effort to compare their packages with others. A most unwise decision, I thought.

Taiwan! Ahhhh~

Angela Zhang

Friday, March 24

Did u come to my blog and realised something has changed?
Hey... where's the face of that shuai ge???
Hahaha...
I felt like changing the banner up there to something else. To something simple, because simple things are easier to do. I still haven't figured out the basics of Photohop, and I should... after my exams, i guess.

We handed up our FYP report today! We have to, it's the deadline, and it's great to see the results of our hard work. We started working on it during last semester, maybe mid-semester? That was when we gathered most of the data and started writing, but it was during PA that more was accomplished, with the interviews done after PA and meet-ups on weekends. And then, after PA, it was a hectic start for all as we hae to juggle things here and there. All in a flash, suddenly, we have completed our reports, printed it and binded them. I must say, the reports look beautiful after binding! The content is also beautiful la! Cheers to my groupmates, Mr n Mrs Li! *Yuuuuum Seng*!

No more projects le! Only left with 2 quizzes! Yay~!

And as a post-FYP celebration, we attended a concert today! Ok it's just a campus concert, but, it's our LAST campus concert in NTU le. The performer was Angela Zhang and she's quite cute! While she's quite small sized, her voice sounds power. Wha's more, she sang songs from her previous albums too! The audience was the loudest when she said she wanted to sing 遗失的美好, even more enthu when she sang her fast songs. I thought it seemed a bit pathetic when she sang 潘多拉, where there were certain parts that the audience could shout aloud, but well... At the end, I was hoping she would sing "Journey" too, but no, she sang another fast song...

It was dark k.

I went to this concert with zh, wh, and xm. PQ was there too with mr tan! And as wh said, we were the only final yr acc grp B students there. Oh Miss Zhuo was there too, but that's really of few of us. In fact, we might be the only final yr acc students there. And in fact fact, there were very few SGs. Most of the people there were apparently from our ancestors' country of origin, I think for every 1 SG, there's 10 China. I wonder where are all the SGs.

I have to wake up in 5 hours time for work later. I dunno, but I dun think it would be very enjoyable. Especially when I have to wake up so early in the morning! If not that the pay seems good for just one morning of work, I would rather be with my bed and blanket. I'm not going to agree on job assignments in the future without asking for futher details le!

This Beta IE 7.x I am using now... It's super unstable. It keeps hanging here and there, after opening too many tabs, after visting too many sites and after watching too many online videos. I think it stopped responding about 100 times in an hour. *Gasp* Exaggerating abit, but the point is there la.

Happy birthday to hoi! And I was so desiring for a sakae buffet to celebrate hoi's birth when some people fly aeroplanes... Hur! But anyway, next week might be a better day to celebrate since fyp would have been completed and more people will be free.

Boring day... I went to visit Google Moon online for the first time, only to have it make my day even more boring. What the! Nothing interesting, no aliens, no jade rabbit, no Chang Er. Oh Chang Er must be still on earth, seeking revenge on Nuwa! That's how the vampire story goes... Missing it. Google Earth is more fun! It allows me to say that I have been to Paris, Taiwan, South Africa all in one day, and I even watched some documentaries.

Sympathies to all my dear friends who still have projects and presentations. Poor things. Hahaha.

Shit! Breakout sia... Must be due to the recent deprivation of sleep, and pimples are popping out here and there. No, I haven't been playing mahjong or games... fyp lor. Friends from non-Grp B asked me if I have submitted an e-copy to the library, when I have not even handed up to my tutor. Haa.

I am learning how to use Photoshop now... It doesn't seem as easy as it looks. Ok it doesn't even look simple, with all the layers and channels etc. But, with my intelligence, it shouldn't be too hard to figure it out la (I hope! And I also hope I will be patient enough to figure it out). I now wonder how I managed to use GIMP last time to design some of the icons here...

My graphics card in my home computer has died! The screen had blue thick lines and the resolution was automatically set to 640x480 8-bit colour (I think). I dunno much honestly but I confirm that the most probable rationale is that the graphics card has died. How much does one cost? I am thinking of getting a better one so that I can enjoy my game-playing experience more, provided it doesn't exceed my budget. Well actually I dun exactly have a budget now... In fact I dun even feel like spending money on such stuff now. How how...

Busy with stuff and with all the unfortunate events... blog what... tell mi la... haa... And that was such a forceful "Haa"...

Open mob!

Sunday, March 19

Did anyone watch TV or listen radio on Sat? If so, you must have repeatedly seen/ heard the open mobilisation. And yes, I was mobilised!

Well it wasn't anything of a rush as it was somewhat expected that we would be activated this manning period. And this sat was quite probable, after having some 'insider information'... Hehe. So basically on Fri night, I checked all my stuff to ensure everything is ready and properly packed, just in case kenna checked.

On sat itself, even before we were mobilised, I was informed that the advance party was already been mobilised and we should be activated by 2. Being the responsible Det I/C, I informed my det members of 99.9% likely mobilisation later (Not that this would be of much useful, coz I told them not too long before the mob started...). And so while watching TV and at past 2, I saw the little green man flashing! My code name! Activated lor!

Took a cab down and fetched SW first. Well it's a good thing that both of our men in our det are contactable, so we could simply pop down to the mob centre asap. We were still discussing if this mob was a sign-in sign-out mob, or a something mob which we have to stay until late in the night, and perhaps even perform some sentry duties! Anf it's the former, to his most relief since he had many events at night. Over there, RSM simply checked to ensure we had equipment and that's it! The processing time was almost equivalent to our travelling time.

SW and I were so early, we thought we were the first from our platoon to arrive! We sat in the canteen, watching men from other units, other companies, other platoons, but none from mortar... None until quite some time later. But I learnt later that we were not the first... Apparently, alan had rushed down immediately once the green man flashed. Immediately as in lightning speed, as I heard he reached the mob centre at 2.15pm. Gosh! Efficient soldier!

Although we were early, the others were late late late. Ok they were not late as they still met N+6 hours, but we waited for some of them for quite a long time. It was already 5+ when ck, ym etc. finished processing and we headed down to the nearby area for a meal and caught up with them. WX had very good luck... His IA company sent him to China for a short period of time even though he applied for a local IA, with quite good pay too! Dav actually said he fasted reguarly... not that I am questioning, but as mentioned by ck, would it atone for the past chilli sauce, ketchup, milk, groundsheets and many other free stuff that he took along the way? Haha, in case Dav sees this, Dav is really quite a nice person la.

All in all, the mobilisation went smoothly for me. =)

Oooh I finally have some time today. Anyway that quiz today was, well, take it as that I didn't read the question well. Somemore, qn 1 worth 30 marks is actually so easy ah! And I didn't even read the question carefully. (I didnt even read that part about the Rev Acq!) Oops x 8.

It's the examiners' fault la... Make us wait so long outside, that we stood until we couldn't think. Stand too long, all the luck flew away too. Should have wore RED! Haa.

Oh there's some construction works going on below my block, and it's irritating coz it's not only noisy, it's dusty. And I seem to think it makes the air flowing into my room warm too. But I am living on the 4th storey. Wonder how those living below could stand it. And what's more this is only some minor construction works. Makes me wonder even more how Hall 12/13 managed to survive when Hall 3/16 were being constructed. Practically breathing in dust and soil everyday. But now, they have another canteen to choose from.

Construction works are like part of life. Endure the dust for some time and there, you can reap the benefits!

YTF stall

Saturday, March 11

There is a great variety of food in NTU canteens, and the food is also cheaper than outside. Not only is the price factor that makes the food attractive, but some stalls also offer food which can be as good as outside, if not better. Like Can 14 Ban Mian, Can 1 Porridge, Can 2 Chicken Rice and Beef Soup, and even Can A's Mac (cheaper!). That's why there's an influx of outsiders sometimes. Unfortunately, some stalls, or some of the food offered by the stalls, do not meet my standard.

The one top on my list is... *drumrolls*
...
...
..
..
.
.
Canteen B Yong Tau Foo!

The ingredients are ok, but the quantity is pathetic! Smint and I ordered from the stall just a few days ago, and the amount of noodles and bee hoon given to us was like, one mouthful?? Ok make that 2 mouthfuls, but that's just as little as it gets! In fact, they always gave so little in my nearly 3 years in NTU, but this time, it was really really little.

And the stall owners are giam in many other ways. U ask for curry yong tau foo, they give so little curry. U ask for more curry, they say, "是这样多的!给你多,下一个就不够了!" Yeah they prepared so little curry for as many customers as possible. They never thought of preparing more curry for to increase customer satisfaction. Another time in the evening, a customer was asking for an extra empty bowl and guess what, the owner charged her $0.20! WTF! As if the customer didn't buy food from him?! And sometimes, I ordered 7 items, but I wondered why my food costs $2.10 or $2.20. It makes no sense for certain items to be more expensive than others when the only notice they put was "7 items for $2.00".

And this reminds me of another incident, not related to giamness but hygiene. I was eating with my GE classmate who ordered yong tau foo (YTF). As she was eating halfway, she found something amiss and spat out her food. What was that? It was a flying insect! The owners exchanged her food, but it was surely a most unpleasant incident for her. This happened about 2 years ago and it's true. So are the above few incidents.

Then why is the stall still so crowded all the time, despite such mini servings? I think one reason is that most people who ordered YTF felt like eating something light and not too satisfying. YTF is the most healthy food around and sometimes people also associate healthy eating with cannot-eat-too-full la, if not 肚子爆炸!. So it doesn't really matter if they got less bee hoon or noodles. And oh yeah, this is why YTF with rice is more expensive. Coz they cannot cheat on a bowl of rice! But for bee hoon and noodles, they just anyhow cut some strands and that's it. It's like a happy meal serving. But eat liao, not happy!!!

And now sometimes, they dun even refill the spring onions and cut chilli. So for my next few months in NTU, no more yong tau foo!!!

As for the other stalls on my CONDEMNED list, let me think think!

Wild boar sighting

Friday, March 10

I saw 3 baby wild boars today in ntu while jogging! From afar, I thought they looked like wild dogs, and there was more than one, so I decided to cross over to the other side of the road. And as I was nearer to them, the bigger they looked and they looked a bit like pigs. Then I realised they are baby wild boars! 3 of them! A driver in a van even stopped to snap some photos of them, and I thought the baby boars paused and posed for him to take photos. Hmmm no la, I think they were scared, and although I was over at the other side, I was a bit scared too. They aren't really small-sized and the mother wild boar should be somewhere around too. Die liao if they charged at me...

Oh where did I see them? At the area near Hall 10 there, the long stretch of road between Hall 10 and Hall 15, and they seemed to be happily having a stroll there on the pavement until they bumped into me and the driver...

I thought it was quite amazing! Yeah they re actually dangerous creatures, but it's amazing coz throghtout my NS period, I've never ever seen one single wild boar. Although I have been close to some of them last year unknowingly during reservist, when I was in some forest and EJ told me that he saw a mother wild boar bringing her 4 baby wild boars for a stroll, and they were actually quite near me. But I never saw them. And I should be quite heng that the mum never charged at me.

And in case u are wondering how a wild boar looks like...

Quite cute from afar la, honestly... haha!

Oscar

Tuesday, March 7

It was, and is still a regret that Brokeback Mountain didn't win "Best Motion Picture". I dun think it was overrated; the fact that BBM has garnered numerous awards elsewhere does prove BBM to be one of the best film in history. The fact that Oscar awarded Best Directing to Lee Ang for BBM, but not Best Picture, could perhaps be that Crash is still a safer choice. I can't comment much on Crash coz I haven't seen it, but still, I would have much preferred BBM to win. It's really deserving, IMO.

Wel that's the major upset for the Oscar, i guess. There were also other slight unhappiness, like Reese Witherspoon winning Best Actress instead of Felicity Huffman, and George Clooney for Best Supoorting Actor.

Like it or not, the results of award presentations are not always what are expected. People often go around saying, "Too bad lor... It's ok if people outside know who are the best." But there's always the prestige of winning something, and the joy of going onto stage to receive a award that u have worked hard for. And the problem often lies with the selection of the judging panel.

Perhaps some of the judges had no idea who/what's the best, which happens too often in SMS voting contests (like what happened to our dear Lee Teng) when the judges are the audience, who should ideally offer the best opinions but unfortunately, the results would be flawed if it eventually boils down to simply who is richer. And when the judging panel is not the audience, who are they? Professionals in the field? Outsiders? Common civilians like you and me who might be just ticking boxes not knowing who/what they are voting for?

And perhaps it's not really the judges' fault. Sometimes the organisers have to share the pork to please everyone (This situation often happens in our local prestigous Mandrian pop awards to entice foreign artistes to come).

In the case of BBM, well BBM sure causes many audience to be discomfortable with the displaying of affection by 2 guys, especially the anal sex part, i guess. But it doesn't show much anyway! And as what co-screenwriter Larry McMurtry said, Americans do not like cowboys to be gay.

Thus, BBM had to contend with 3 awards at the Oscar:

Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score)
(Gustavo Santaolalla)

Adapted Screenplay
(Larry McMurtry & Diana Ossana)

Achievement in Directing
(Lee Ang)

Oh and I bought 2 new books today! It's not hard to guess one of the books right... haa!

Monday, March 6

Gosh I am in a pms-ing mood recently, and I am still in one.

No idea, the mood just came and I didn't feel like coming school today. I mean, I wanted to coz I took the bus out and even went onto the platform. But I didn't enter the train and I decided to go back home instead, not recalling there's a stupid 312 1-hr lesson in the evening. So I have to skip it later since I'm at home.

MOB: There's a mobilisation peroid for me next week. Wonder if I would be mobilised? It's kinda silly anyway, they say, to go back camp, sign your name, and then go back home. I haven't been mobilised before so this doesn't sound very appealing to me. If I am mobilised, I have to call up my detachment members to inform them and then dig out my uniform, my boots and my FBO stuff. Then I have to take a cab down, which I estimate will be $20 or $14+ if sharing. Then goodness knows what I will be doing there... Maybe kanna reprimanded for my coloured hair?? Lay out my items, which i think should be incomplete?? Gather around and talk cock?? Then I guess it will be a waiting game until everyone arrives before we can leave. And we can't go and eat with all the stuff we're carrying, so we'll be going home probably. Via cab, it'll be another $14++. Doesn't that sound simply interesting for a saturday or sunday afternnon/evening?

Music: A*Mei's new album totally rocks! It's great, much better than her previous album that flopped. In fact, much better than even some of her previous albums. This album emphaizes back on A*Mei's edge in ballads, aka to back to basics. Heard that she previously decided with her producer for this to be an all-ballad album, but Warner management were apparently shocked. I won't mind an all-ballad album though, since ballads were what A*Mei does best! Repeating "Wo Yao Kuai Le" on my playlist nowadays.

And yeah, though JJ's album is good too, I think A*Mei definitely outshines everyone else for her performance in this album. A*Mei is still the queen!

I heard Guang Liang's new song "Yue Ding" on 933 and I like it alot too. Actually, speaking of Guang Liang, I didn't really like his previous hit song "Tong Hua" initially. It somehow didn't appealed to me but everyone was going ga-ga over it so I started to grow on it too. Dunno why, the tune isn't really very special and the lyrics were what made the song stand out. But the lyrics didn't make me turn my head, maybe coz I can't enter the emotions of the songwrite... i'm not really willing to spread my wings totally open and be a guardian angel for anyone yet. Or perhaps the lyrics seemed too perfect in that there's such a perfect lover, which i really perceive to exist only in fairytales. And although the mtv is touching, i thought the director tried to squeeze in too many elements into the song. Where the mtv is supposed to accompany the song, the song now accompanies the mtv instead. Or maybe, the mtv just dun suit the song. The song is not supposed to be so sad one leh.

Ok I just wanted to let it out that I didn't really like "Tong Hua" as much as I thought I liked it. "Yue Ding" sounds good. But my favourite Guang Liang song is still that song... If u know it, then u know it lor... haa.

It's rare for me to be at home on weekday nights. Need to catch up on SCV! =)

Shall not sleep too late again like at 4am, it gave me a horrible headache the next day n next next day and a little today as well.

Received a sms from MINDEF, notifying me of a call-up for reservist. Technology has so advanced nowadays that we no longer received the green 'bomb' by mail for our next ICT. This year, reservist will be in end June, which is definitely much better than last yr's mid-July. Of course, I am not dreading ICT much coz it has always been fun in a way to chiong with my platoon mates. Just that, last year, my good friend SW had to defer coz of PA, and this year, another good friend EJ will be deferring coz of PA as well. Sad. I still remembered that once during NS, all my good friends had guard duty on the same night. They are the ones whom i can talk cock with the most till late night and it was a bit lonely without any one of them. So I wish for this ICT that no more people will defer.

And Happy Birthday to Mabel too! Actually I just saw ur wishlist, which is... a bit too late? Haha, so the only thing I can say now is, "It's the thought that counts." ^_^

FYP Day

Thursday, March 2

It's the FYP season, where everyone is rushing to meet datelines and completing drafts and improved versions of even more drafts. Our group decides it's time to devote a whole free day to FYP.

We managed to occupy an IT Lab which was empty when we entered, most prob lessons just ended. And I did something that others might be annoyed: Turn on music! But we came first mah, and moreover, if we are gonna spend a whole day in the lab, it would be horrible without music.

So we started @ 12 plus, and soon many other people started to stream in. A few other FYP groups, a 312 group (with lotsa gossips...), and some other misc helped prevented the IT lab from being totally empty.

PQ msn-ed me at 5 plus,"Where you? We having KFC in hall later."
*sob* I also want!
So I'm a bit sianz liao... What are my fyp groupmates doing?

Smint is typing. FYP report? No she's also taking a break... Updating blog sia!!

ZH leh? Still on the fyp report wor... Wah...

And as the day passes, the IT lab becomes emptier and emptier. There's not much people left...

*Bleh* I'm bored...

My fault... She stuck out her tongue too, but I took the photo too slow. So there's only an open mouth and no tongue. Or maybe she's hungry...

Someone just refused to look at my phone for a front view. But at least he stuck out his tongue. Haa...

Our dinner was Canadian pizza! Simon asked us if we wanna share pizza mah, so we said ok. So our dinner was in the lab too and our day officially ended at 10 plus. Exhausting!
