Sunday, July 30

Aaah... By right, I should be talking about my NBS Convo Ball, and posting some stupid photos. But by left, I'm quite tired and sleepy now leh... I post up fotos when I get more from my friends...

A few thoughts about the Ball: Wonderful, great, memorable. It wasn't so much about the seats, food or the gifts (Knn, i must say this lor, my table 27 was the rightful winner of the Table Game but the stupid MC said Table 17 instead! Confirm he say wrongly lor based on the "'Whisper' from the winning table statement"! Condemned!). It's about the people, people who had been in the same school as me for the past 3 years, some course-mates, some lecture-mates, some tutorial-mates, and some hall-mates.

Now, everything can be summed up in 3 words: "No more liao." Sigh.

Convo

Wednesday, July 26

Convocation 2006 is over! It was wonderful, but i got one regret, that is, didn't take enough photos during the ceremony! Arrrgh... I missed taking photos with my business friends e.g. RS, YY, and to those that I did take with, I haven't wear my convo gown yet! Arrgh! Then when convo ended, I was basically running around, from lvl 3 audi to lvl 1 audi, to SBS and back to audi, yet I still missed out photo-taking with many ACC people, like pQ, XM, gel etc. Raar!

Looking forward to the next round of photo-taking during convo ball, as well as going outside to take photos in convo gown. Did someone obtain the zoo passes yet? Haa!

Convo collage

Top
1. My parents & my grandma went to the convo with only 2 tix! It was a risk, but I somehow believed that they could all enter the audi. Heng, somehow they managed to went into the audi with only 2 tix! The ushers were initially reluctant but I guess, they are kind-hearted people after all.
2. Me with smint and ZH, and a part of WH's hand when he tried to jump in when we were taking the photo. And I looked horribly short in this ctual sized photo.
3. SW and me! My army buddy who's in Mktg and it feels great that we are graduating together on the same day. My regret, where's my gown??

Middle
1. This pic will be worth alot in the future coz got star inside. Oh, in case u're wondering it's me, no la, I'm referring to Lee teng. Haa.
2a. Me with mabel, one of the few hall 14 ppl whom I take picture with. Once again, regret, where's my gown??
2b. Can't see who's she? Gillian, my AB311 groupmate as well as my future colleague! And we'll both be going for the NBS Welcome Day for freshies!
3. Stylo milo with hoi. She's got so many family members coming with her! Oh and hoi appears in the convo publication thingy, with half a photo of her... haa...

Bottom
1. With XP n WH, who just came back from the US with HMM in midnight! Looking forward to their tales and fotos from US!
2. The pic with us throwing our hats (what do we call them??) into the air! It took us quite a long time to take this pic. And I wanted to use consecutive shots for this, but somehow my cam's not set to that mode. But still, this lone pic isn't that bad la.

Wadrobe

Saturday, July 22

Do you know... the Great Singapore Sale is ending?
Do you know... G2000 got season clearance sale up to 50%, and members get additional 15%? (谢谢 mabel for the card!)

So... it was some simple shopping for me for some of the past few days. Boh bian mah, starting work soon leh (ok la not very soon...), then still not many clothes to wear. To make it sound less painful for me, I exchanged about S$200 cash into 1 pair of shoes, 1 pants and some long-sleeved shirts. Actually, I could have bought more when I went to Taka and saw many more 几美的衣服喔 (I used the correct "几"?), but enough for now, I still need to eat for the following month lor.

At least, now my wardrobe has more business wear... =)

But my business wear is still very little compared to my casual wear... =

Eh, still got more t-shirts folded below leh.
My aim is to have my business wear filling the hanging compartment, and all my casual wear folded neatly below, which means I would have to clear the tees that I no longer wear but 不舍得丢掉的。“我舍不得你, yeh yeh, 无奈我要创造未来...”

~~

Speaking of long sleeved shirts, I bought my first cufflink shirt! I think I bought my first cufflinks late last year, but I had no cufflink shirt. I was even wondering, how do I wear the cufflink on my long sleeved shirt ah? Yep, this smart guy here didn't know he needs a special cufflink shirt to wear cufflinks. I was even contemplating cutting a hole in my sleeves to wear the cufflinks! 笨笨笨! -_-"

So how did I figure out the mystery of the cufflinks? I remember it was during the AA206 presentation when I saw ryan wearing a cufflink shirt to present. So I went to ask him after his presentation, and I even blurted out quite innocently, "Oh need to buy a 'special' shirt one ah? I thought need to cut my shirt or what..." I think some people were stunned dio...
~~

Sigh. Now. I need to stay at home more and practise my keyboard ("江南" is so hard) n fiddle with Photoshop. For Photoshop, I'm still trying to digest the 1100-page Photoshop Bible. The book is pretty comprehensive, perhaps I could buy in the future as a reference guide. Now, I'm just trying my best to use Photoshop... trying...

Oh I was in Taka and I saw this brand of pens...

LAMY! That's my NTU userID lor! I think the brand has been there for quite long le but I never really noticed it. Haha... Who want to give me PRE-birthday present?? *Ahem* 74 days to my birthday, still far far away, that's why I said PRE-birthday present... Haha!

updates on last week

Monday, July 17

Whenever people see me nowadays, the question, "So 你最近在做什么ah?" always pops up. I'm not ashamed to say that I've been zhuo bo la, ha... But giving that reply always make me feel I have been wasting my time... Ok I've been, and I love this!

Went back to Hall (Yes, the Hall that I used to stay in, the Hall that's all the way in Boon Lay!) on Fri for a MJ cum DVD session. This time, my luck wasn't so good, never even got a full tai in the 3 rounds (Almost made a Da 3 Yuan tho...) This time, i lost almost as much as 31. It seems that whenever I play with ZQ, my luck won't be so good. Pity CY wasn't there to join us though.

Met the couple to pass them their convo stuff on Sun. Haven't really met up with them since they started working so it's great to see them again. They seem to be enjoying their jobs pretty much for now.

My blog has been pretty photo-less lately. I've decided not to post any photos until I have sorta master Photoshop, and this few weeks shall be intensive Photoshop training camp for myself, with the 3 Photoshop books I borrowed from the library. 1 book was 1000-page, and I do hope I can finish it by the 3 weeks dateline... I just want to do something constructive during my holis!

AHS school song

Friday, July 14

To all ex-AHS-sians...

I checked my email today and found this email entitled "FW: Reinstatement of School Song of Anglican High School - Petition Online". I thought, what was it, what school song?? Upon reading the email, I then realised that the school song of AHS has been changed to a simpler version, and it was apparently changed in 2004! The new school management had changed the lyrics (no change in melody) from the old 文言文 version to a more easily understood 现代文 version.

Let's see...

The old lyrics:

The new lyrics:

From the email, orginally written by an ex-teacher to inform some of his ex-students of the change, it seemed that the change was required as new students nowadays, even new teachers, could not apprehend the underlying meaning of the lyrics. This is part of the email:

"...The change started during the time of Mr David Wang, our ex- principal
who took over from Mr Moo. The reason is becos the old version of the school
song is written in the old form of Chinese (wen yen wen), and many of our
students (including teachers too) have problems understanding it, not less to
say appreciating the meaning behind it. It was Mr David Wang's idea,
therefore, to change the lyrics of the school song, but maintaining its melody
and rhythm.

The new lyrics are suppose to bring out as much as possible the meaning of
the old one, so that the spirit is preserved. Two versions have been proposed,
one by Mr Wun Fook Cheong, another by Mr Liew Chee Kong. These were presented to the school board, and vetted by Revd Lim Kok Heng, our ex-school chaplain.
According to Mr David Wang, the lyrics also went thru the Chinese Dept teachers.
The final version was adopted and supported by the school board. It was first
taught and sung in school in 2004. So this is already the third year the school
is singing this new version.

As I have been involved in the work in the school heritage centre, I got a
chance to speak to Mr Wang and heard his explanation. Hope this helps. I don't
think he is trying to do anything detrimental to the school culture, cos we know
he has contributed greatly to bring the school up in its academic results, as
well as lay down the strategic plans of the school. However, perhaps the alumni
was not involved, and understanding you guys have a lot of fond memories of old,
and may feel indignant about the change. But hopefully after understanding the
background you may act more objectively..."

Seriously, I dun think the new lyrics can preserve the old AH spirit. If new students cannot understand, then teach them la! I vaguely remember that during my first music lesson, HCL was patiently teaching us how to sing it, as well as the underlying meaning. Being sec 1 and freshmen, I dun think any of us understood then. Eh, in fact today, there are still some parts I am still unsure, and some parts forgotten...

Today, I'm already an ex-student, but the old school song is still roughly etched in my mind. The old chim lyrics surely represent some of the Chinese spirit that the forefathers of AHS had in mind, and I seriously do not like the idea of simplfying the school song just to make it easier to understand. The school song is part of the heritage of the school, so how can 说换就换?I wonder if the pledge is still read, and commands still being shouted, in Mandrian during morning assemblies. By simplfying the lyrics, it suggests that the Chinese standard of AHS students today have been brought to a lower level, which is ironical because of one AHS's core calues is to "to develop well-rounded individuals who are effectively bilingual, appreciate Chinese culture and value diversity."

Some ex-students, in response to the ex-teacher's email, have set up an online petition to show how they feel: http://www.petitiononline.com/AHS2006/ It may not make a great difference at this point in time, but at least it shows how I feel.

And the school management expect each alumnus to pay $80 for an alumni dinner when the alumni were not informed of such important issues previously??

Another nice show on SCV, HK serial 《老婆大人》is coming to an end soon again... Like it a lot, anyone watching it too? Initially I didn't really like the show coz I thought, how could there be such a husband, such a man?? So obedient and hen-pecked... But as I watch on, I enjoy the show more. It's more about love and compromise, and where to draw the line. What truly defines a successful marriage? A pre-marriage arrangement?

And we should also be careful of the people around us. Even against who those appear blur often, because for them, in order to get what they want, they may turn vicious and regard friends as enemies. It's scary whenever I see Yoyo onscreen in these last few episodes!

Went back to school to collect transcripts and certs yesterday and saw many familiar faces. A bit 不舍得, so went to some familiar places such as S4, FAL etc, and said goodbye to the photocopy shop auntie too. Wonder how long she has been there and how many batches she has seen coming in and out of NBS...
Byez NBS~~!

Melancholy

Sunday, July 9

Melancholy is in my soul...

"这是我们的纪念日
纪念我们开始对自己诚实
愿意为深爱的人放弃骄傲
说少了你生活淡的没有味道"

"走不出的路口
一个人一瞬间
淹没在人群中
寂寞的路口
一个人一转眼
走进了回忆漩涡"

"美的忍不住停留
而任性的风
吹过了
却飘下一片片叶落"

I just feel a bit disappointed at some old JC pals. Even if I return back there, I dun think we could be as good friends as before. I can't sense their (or to be more specific, her) sincerity. Another old friend, not from my old JC, seemed to understand me more than my ex-JC pals.

Being busy is never an excuse for not making time for friends. Nor should religion be. But for my ex-JC pals, the latter appears so for them and it suddenly occured to me that I was like that in the past too. A bit too narrow-minded, and even a bit brain-washed.
=(

Everyone asked me what have I been up to in the past week. My answer: Zhuo Boh. Ok la, not really, but that's the main part. Coz everyone is telling me to enjoy while I still can, based on their experiences. But really, I've been doing constructive stuff too. Other than relaxing, I've been applying elsewhere just because I'm too bored. Killed my brain cells when I went to do a test I thought was those reasoning/IQ tests (the receptionist said so!), but turned out to be a maths & english test. Hate lor! Like those questions asking me that there's this bathtub, and i turn on the tap above @ X litre/hr and let the water flow below @ Y litre/hr, and how long would it take to empty the bathtub. Conclusion is, I dunno how to do many of the questions lor...

And I've been gaming too... Hero Online, a bit dota. And sleeping alot. And watching TVs and VCDs and DVDs. And going out less regularly coz I need my savings to tahan until I get my first paycheck which should be in Sep. And yeah, awaiting treats from my dear friends reading this. Yes! YOU! You know who YOU are! Hah!

Bored...

Friday, July 7

It's been a peaceful week for me... Too peaceful that I really have no updates. While most people are probably haveing an interesting first week in work (like going zoo and hot air balloon rides...), I have been having fun on this MMORPG that I have started playing called Hero Online. Kinda addicted to it... and what I like about this game is that there's really no standard build for the characters. There are many options available and I thought I added some stat points wrongly here and there. But whatever, the character will always work out at the end.

And I knew our G wasn't up to any good... They must have been real unhappy with all the commotion caused by B during polling period and are sorta taking revenge now. *shakes head in disguist*

Me going back to NTU on monday to collect my transcripts and I'll be helping some friends too... If anyone else is working and needs help, can simply sms me. If I am really bored, I may consider even free delivery to ur home... Haa!

Others first day

Tuesday, July 4

Most of my friends have started work, some in mid-june, most today... like pq, zh, smint, xm, rs... Hope u guys had a great First Day at work! I believe that the first week should be quite slack, so may everything goes fine for everyone who have embarked on their first step into the corporate world of snakes n ladders.

For me, I predict myself to be pretty slack till I start work... I'm gonna take my words back on my msn nick when I said I was so bored that I think I should start work earlier too, coz that was typed in a moment of impulse. I still prefer this long break afterall! Especially when I woke up at 11am today and I thought, what if I am starting work today...? *shudders* And I dun think I will actively seek any PT jobs, but if some do come along, then I may consider...

While it seems a bit late now, I am starting to seek other options. Dunno le... I think I think too much always (even that sentence has 2 "think"...) Like when I think of what should I do when I apply everything and I have many job offers?? Which should I accept?? Yeah lor, I know:
-_- Precisely, when 99% that would not happen, but I just tend to think along that line. Take it as I am super optimistic la. Now, I just apply lor, since I may not be called up for interviews anyway.

Speaking of online job applications, I hate it when they send me a link to complete a pre-evaluation online test, but the link does not work somehow... Especially maddening when I spend so much time to fill in my particulars and customise details here and there lor! Grrrr!

ICT 3

Sunday, July 2

I'm back! Actually I booked out on Friday and reached home during early noon. This ICT, tho low-key, is rather packed and maybe I'm getting old but I thought it was quite tiring.

Day One: Woke up at 5.15 am or so to prepare to go in-camp. So early... But we're supposed to book in by 7am, and it's good to be early to get the best beds. I was glad I was not caught by RSM for my hair coz I thought it was still a bit thick and sideburns were a bit long. Anyway, Day One was nothing for us men. Basically we just slacked the whole day in our bunks... This must be a real slack ICT, or so I thought...

Day Two: Woke up horribly early for IPPT, even before the sun rose. I was amazed at how they automated the whole IPPT test stations! At the pull-up station, the sensor knows if u straighten your arms a not. And the shuttle-run, aaah, everyone seemed to get better results coz the timing appears to start a little bit later after the taker runs. But then, no one should ever fail this anyway...

And of course, I managed to maintain my silver. =)

Day Three: Outfield in the noon... No one likes outfield. We always have so many stores to take care of and to clean after outfield. And feeding the mosquitoes in Lim Chu Kang, pretending camo cream is facial mask and applying them, digging holes... And enduring someone's showing off of power by shouting and screaming (not to me, heng)...

Day Four: Ok fast forward to end of outfield. Return to camp? U're wrong, man. After enduring a whole night of outfield with hardly any sleep and food, we had to attend a COC (Change of command) parade. What's worse, we had to rehearse under the hot sun and wait for goodness-knows-how-long under the blazing hot sun for a certain high-ranking officer to come. He expected the whole batallion to wait for him when he's not even the main character?? RSM even dared to say, "The weather is very kind to us today." Well of course, if it rained there wouldn't be any parade at all which would affect the high-level more than us...

Day Five: WTF?? I still can't believe they put a 5BX with a 3km run super early in the morning. Can't they just let us rest after outfield and after a stupid COC parade under the blazing hot sun?? And once again, someone (the same someone as the one in Day 3) was wayang-ing once again... "Company let's sing song!" Huh? Reservist still sing song? Before one starts to think that he is really on, how about it if I say that the CO is just in front of him and us... No need so obvious right...

Anyway I was really glad to out-pro! I was totally worn-out and deprived of sleep! And besides, I couldn't stand many things too. I must say, though, that the standard of food seemed to have improved. Except for one or two CMIs, the rest of the meals do not taste that bad.
