Bye Lingzhi...

Friday, October 27

If u listened to 933 "就是万人迷" this morning or passed by Cruz's blog, U would have heard the news... Lingzhi is leaving 933! And Friday will be her last day on air... This post will be my 933 listening experiences wrt Lingzhi...

Firstly I must say that I am quite sad to hear the news. Coz Lingzhi is my fav DJ on 933 lor... Loved listening to her Music Diary then! The first time I heard Music Diary was only when I was in army, and then I tried to listen to it whenever I could. Once I was having outfield in Tekong acting as enemy and I remembered switching on my receiver at 8 to listen to MD. I didn't really remember the story, but it was about letting go when it is time to, and one of the songs being played was Stefanie's "相信". Listening to Lingzhi's voice and nice songs helped me to be less sad in the mosquitoes-infested jungles of Tekong. And in camp, I would always bring along my receiver to listen to MD whenever I was on guard duty too!

And then... NTU! I still tried to listen to MD or the replays whenever possible, and there were some shiftings in timing too, something like to 8.30, then to 11 and back to 8.30. Other than MD, "2300 寂寞有人陪" ,the night show by Lingzhi, was my favourite too! I listened to it when I was studying at night to keep me awake, I even called in a few times and dedicated songs to my friends, where I'll be like rushing to mention as many names as I could... Do u know, I once even wrote down a list of names and pinned on my notice board so that when I called in, I would not miss out certain names?? Haha...

I love Lingzhi's night show because it creates a perfect studying environment for me in hall, complete with my own room and my own desk. *Bringing back many Hall 14 memories now* And I always think that many NTU students listen to her prog too, esp during exam time, when there'll be many phone & sms dedications from NTU grads! U can hear representatives from almost all of the 15 halls... Ok usually its the same ppl calling in, but still, 933 rules in NTU k!

And then in my final year... Lingzhi went to host "就是万人迷" with Cruz! Every morning 7am... abit early for me honestly. But on some days, I had lessons at 0830, and I would tune in to 933 in the early morning to listen to their suaning each other and lame jokes and wake up! If I had lessons at 1030 or maybe noon, I would probably set my alarm at 8 plus or 9 and if i managed to wake up, I'll laze in bed while listening to 933 before I finally washed up. I love the 默契 between them, and Chuan Lai would come in and guest star on Tues (?) too.

I forgot when Mary came in, but things certainly got more exciting with 3 people hosting the morning show, and somehow the 3 of them are like the combo. I just thought that if it was another 933 DJ joining LZ and Cruz, the effect would perhaps be worse. But with Mary, everyone seems to be complementing everyone else!

However there were some ridiculous listeners who actually wrote in to the media and complained about Lingzhi! One was about her suaning Zhiyong's looks and the other was about her mentioning about toilet bowls and spoiling the complainer's appetite. How utterly absurd! No comments lor. Some people are simply boh liao.

** *

Byez Lingzhi...

Perhaps Lingzhi left because she is tired, like how Kit and Yanzi were. Perhaps she felt it's time to let go and, she has been letting go of Music Diary bit by bit, letting it remain only in our memories. Perhaps she just wants to find back herself. I dunno... But I wish Lingzhi all the best, and hopefully someday, we'll still hear her on radio again.

Wednesday, October 25

Someone commented my blog has been very sad lately...What to do... The weather has mostly been hazy for me, no sun, no rain...t's just hazy and stuffy.

Perhaps some pics of a cute little girl could brighten this place up!

I guess she's my niece. "I guess"?? Nono, this family is a close relative with mine, and this girl's mummy is my aunt. Well, actually not really too, coz if she's my aunt, she has to be my mum's or dad's sister right? But she isn't, and I'm not sure if my aunt's mum is my grandma's sis too.

It should be kinda complicated... I know I once asked when I was young and I think it was kinda complicated for me to comprehend then. And I never asked again since then coz I conclude it doesn't really matter.

So back to Zelene... aaaah special name rite.

She's a hyper-active and hyper-energetic little girl, like any other hyper-active and hyper-energetic children on this earth. It's just amazing how much energy children have nowadays... They can keep running and jumping around non-stop. One day with her is still ok, but if everyday...

Btw, 2 more months to Christmas! Yay~!

Change blog address

Tuesday, October 24

Oooh I didn't know I can change blog address so easily... So peepz, I will be changing my blog address le. Coz the problem now is, this blogspot nick is the same as my msn nick. It's not such a good idea to have it the same as my msn nick, especially when msn is like passing around one. I like to maintain some 神秘感。Hah!

So I guess I'll just change this blogspot username instead of setting a new one, since it seems much easier to do so and I am lazy. Meanwhile, I am thinking of a superb new nick... So, soon, when this blog says "Error 404: Not in use", and u still want to read, MSN mi! And yeah, update your links too when the time comes!

Btw, my blog banner is changed too... The previous one can be a bit, eh, scary right, sometimes... At least I admit that me myself do try to scroll down asap before the previous banner starts loading... Haha.

Birthday wishes

Friday, October 6

The day arrived, 14400 minutes flowed and whizzed past in the twinkling of an eye. And now, my age is officially 24! No more telling people "23" liao, which wasn't exactly a lie tho.

Thanx to everyone for your birthday wishes!

SMSes in supposedly no order...

Pingwen: Hey donny, HAPPY 22nd BIRTHDAY! Hope u r doing well in ur work and everythg u do!
(My first! So touched... coz this sweet girl's was also the first to sms me for the past 2 years!)

Bro: Happy bday! Got the jacket back?
(My bro sent my jacket for dry-cleaning, and this company actually sent it back to my home, despite it only being a jacket and cleaning costs are only $6.50! My jacket is now clean like new! It's "Spick and Span" @ Suntec City Tower 2 #31-02 if u r interested.)

Siwei: Lol... Happy 24th birthday! Lao le los...
(The "Lol" is becoz he msn-ed me happy birthday, and I asked "Y no sms??" Hrrmpt. But good la, he even called me again to wish me... Thanx buddy! Not i geh gao... but well... Hah!)

YK (or rather, YK+PQ): "Bear pic" in sms format + It's us! Wishing u happy birthday! Hope you enjoyed yourself'
(Bear pic as in those now-almost-extinct sms where u get pics of bears, pigs formed using symbols in sms format. I used to send lotsa those to everyone!)

Davin: Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you!Happy birthday happy birthday! Happy birthday to donny! Don't forget to organize bbq ok! Good night!
(So I was so surprised to receive Davin's sms... then I see the bbq part. Hur! And yeah, after I thanked him and said I am surprised he actually remembered, his reply comes with a hint that his birthday is one week after mine... aaaah. But I somehow still dun believe that this is the reason that he remb.)

Shimin: don! I may not b e 1st one to msg u, but u're e 1st person i msg 2day. ha... happy 24th bday! may all ur wishes come true, includin changin of cakes. :)
(Ah, I have pirioty over someone else in her heart for that day!)

Jingsi: Hey Donny HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 祝你everyday开心健康快乐. may u find d right kind of cake for yourself. I wish for nothing but d best 4 ya.
(My 2nd sms on cakes, appreciate it! The only paiseh thing is, I lost her contact ever since I lost my HP, so I had to embarressingly asked her for her name... But thanx gal for the sms!)

Xinmin: Hey don i cant meet u for lunch. Need to go dwn to a co to do post balance. Tell u again. Btw. Happy bdae!
(Met XM for lunch the day before, but it turned out to be a big group and I hardly have any chance to talk to her. We need to meet up again!)

Wenhua: Hey happy birthday!
(Short and sweet!)

Huiyi: blessed 24th bday, don! :)
(My old friend from AHS, TPJC and cell! Lost contact with her for the past few years, and so it's really a pleasant surprise to receive her wishes!)

Ruiqin: Hey. It's ur bday right? Happy bday! Have an enjoyable day.. :-)
(And I happened to not have her contact too. It's getting very paiseh when people sms me happy birthday and I dun have their numbers. While losing hp is a very legitimate reason, but if I am the one who bother to send an old friend sms and the old friend doesn't have my number, I'll prob curse the bdae boy/girl while sms-ing a "It's ok dear! Never mind! =)"
Speaking so, I believe JS, RQ and Des are very kind people (unlike me) who have a forgiving heart, right? ^___^

Aunt Jean: Happy birthday! may all yr wishes come true!
(I realise that ever since I turned 21, no more ang pows from my close relatives... Sorta regretting not choosing another 21st bdae gift... Hmmm I realise I do have many regrets in life. I promise to live my 24th year onwards, the life I want. No. More. Regrets.)

Christina: Happy birthday!! Luckily make it in TIme.. Msn e wish to u this morn but think my msn kok up.. And I forgot bout it during lunch.. Sorry! But hope u enjoyed urself today! =)
(Ok I spent my day in the office doing web based learning. D Day might have been more exciting, but since there're only a few of my gang left in the office and these are new colleagues, I suppose I could be minimally satisfied with a peaceful day at work. After all, honestly, I never had a good look at the compiled contact list myself.)
And not even an email from the mgr or whosoever! Even in army, my OC sent a card to the birthday boys. Ok probably the OC runner was the one who had to do the sai kang, but at least, there was a card from my superior!

Michelle: harlow! blessed birthday brother. may the knowledge of His goodness b revealed to you more each day. :)
(Old friend too, from AHS n cell!)

Xianpei: Don! Happy birthday! Here's wishing u a great 24th year filled with much joy n happiness! Have fun celebrating!
(XP's just started her step into her mushroom cheesecake too, but hers is Prada's brand, so should be more delicious. Haha.)

Shuqiang: Hey, glad is your turn to join the age of 24. Happy birthday! Enjoy your birthday week ba
(SQ's bdae is one week before mine, and perhaps this is why he's glad that after he turns 1 year older, he knows there's another person who will be turing 1 year older too the week after...)

Zhonghui: Donny! Happy birthday!! Rem to cut mi a slice when u find ur new york cheese cake! Haha..
(This one ah. I had to msn him at 11pm when I got home to ask "Y no sms??" And he thought he sent a sms already in the morning! Where got... so the shameless me decided to ask for one myself. Heh!)

Changyuan: Since you want it, i give you... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
(So unwilling hor, when I asked for a sms... But I really prefer sms over msn mah, coz I can store them in my phone and bring my wishes around mah...)

Des: Though this may come late, my best wishes to u for ur birthday. Always stay strong and chirpy! :) Happy birthday!
(I lost his contact too... And so I sent my 3rd embarressing sms to ask for the wisher's name...)

Special thanx to...
Edwin C for his treat @ Cafe Cartel! The meal for 2 persons was horribly filling, but it was really worth it!

Phone calls
~ Siwei! Talked to him over phone for quite some time. Heh.

~ Leon! I was abit shokced to receive his call from office... Haa I supposed pQ told him and he called to wish me happy bdae in advance. Shocked, but pleased la!

Also got MSN greetings from...
~ Shanyi! It was a wish in advance, so it was my FIRST birthday greeting!

~ Gillian! She wished me twice, before 12 and after 12! Hehe!

~ Shuting! Greetings by another new colleague!

Thanks to everyone for your birthday wishes! Hope I didnt miss anyone out...
Long weekend for me... Yay yay~!

first day

Song of the day!

2 books

Sunday, October 1

Feeling kinda unhappy for the past few days. Yep. Returned to office on sat to finish off the engagement and when I thought I could go, some last minute thing happened and I had to finish it off before meeting my friends. Horribly late...

Today was good though. Couldn't wake up to go church though (i'm not one, but oh well...), but managed to pull off my music lesson somehow. Loving both my music lessons, coz music is like another dimension in the universe and brings me away from the world.

And then... I actually forgot to get my yanzi's cd, but bought 2 good books in Kino.

One of them:

SQ21 stands for Singapore Queers in the 21st Century, compiled by Ng Yi-Sheng. It's a collection of real-life stories of gays, lesbians and bisexuals in their coming out process... the difficulties they faced, the tribulations they encountered, and the love some of them got from their more understanding parents. One contribution was from a mother, who described how she dealt with the realisation that not one, but both of her sons, are gay. I love this book because the stories are just so real and not at all hypocritical. I applaud the authors for having the courage to depict their life stories under the scrutiny of the public eye, with their names and photos in the book too.

This book is not only written for the GLBTs (gays, les, bis, trans) in mind, but for anyone who has love. This book may not necessarily make SG a less homophobic place or have our garmen make SG to be more gay-friendly less gay-unfriendly, but at least, it's a first step.

Inspirational and touching book.

The other book is a life improvement book called Living the 80/20 Way by Richard Koch.

Sidetrack: I shouldn't have searched for this book... Walmart is selling it for roughly US$10 plus, and even with the shipping costs and everything, it's much cheaper still...

Basically... this book is about the 80/20 principle. Quoting from the book's website, "Living the 80/20 way – If we have the courage to go against conventional wisdom, we can work less, worry less, succeed more and make the people who matter in our lives hugely happy. " Motivating.

So yep. I haven't gotten to reading the book in-depth though, but my heart tells me that I didn't buy the wrong book. I trust my gut feeling in buying books. These 2 books make me feel better.

Anyway... I've got this plan in mind. It's sorta something that I've been wanting to do... and maybe I'll be doing it end of this year or next year. If I'm going for this plan, I dun think I will be staying for peak...
