Aaaah I am back in SG after spending 10 days overseas! We arrived in SG around midnight with bags and bags of clothes, shoes, food etc and I suppose we could have bought even more stuff if we had more days in HK. Hah!

Need to pack my stuff first and i havent moved my stuff back from hall! My digicam cable in hall, i'm expecting to shift my things back finally by this week and upload my photos into my laptop.

Need to unpack my luggage le! =)

Oooooh I will be flying off in like 8 hours time to Taiwan n HK... Haven't been on a trip since Year 1 to KL, n haven't been on a plane since NS days. So am i glad that I will be flying off, finally!

Exchanged money, prepared toiletries, packed luggage, etc all in one day. Hope i didn't miss anything... Hmmm I travelled to parkway to change money and i almost went out of money! I haven't exchanged my ERS yet and I thought now I can still change it over the atm easily... But no, the dateline for redemption through ATM was Dec last year. So I withdrew all the cash in my bank account, with a $3 balance in my account now. Eh I hope the money I'll be bringing will be enough and I dun have to withdraw anymore cash over there, coz there's no more cash for me to withdraw. Maybe I'll help them wash plates over there, like the what, play-and-work scheme?? Lol.

Praying for a safe trip and everything to be smooth when we are overseas... Will be back on 29th May!

Although my home PC is down, at least I've got a new router that works fine, thanks to the helpful customer officer @ D-Link! It was worth the trip down to Jurong East there where I got a one-for-one swap for my router and I learnt how to protect my network le. Lifetime warranty for D-Link, heng2 hao3!

This week, Survivor and Amazing Race end le. Well, the winners in both were not exactly who I prefer. In Survivor, I hoped that Terry would be the winner... He fought so hard to win almost all of the immunity challenges and can u imagine how did he spend his life a an outcast among the cassaya tribe-mates, which might have explained why he may seem arrogant to some. But honestly its quite for him to get to the final 2 even if he had given his immunity idol to Danielle. So well, at least he got a car. And it wasn't that bad for Aras to win, at least not Danielle or Cirie...

Then, for TAR, I wished Eric & Jeremy would get the $1m since they have been the most consistent players and they played the game well too. It was such a waste that they lost by that tiny margin to the Hippies at the final flag challenge when they have been leading. But since the Hippies are nice guys too, so its ok...

And for American Idol, arrrgh, Elliot is out... He's one of my favourite contestants, the other being Paris. Anyway when all the 3 votings were so horribly close, i somehow felt that Elliot was the one with the lowest score. Katherine's votes should be higher with her excellent rendition of Somewhere Over a Rainbow. Taylor's... always high votes one mah... So it seemed sadly obvious that Elliot was the one out...

Flying on Sat, and I haven't packed (or decided to use which luggage bag) or changed money (or decided to change how much) or buy the necessary stuff (or think which are the necessary stuff). Arrgh... =)

Home PC died down on me... that's why i cannot update for the past few days...

These few days have been days of slacking... Dint really go out much though, just feel like lying around like a corpse. And also resisting the temptation to shop now until i get to HK soon.

I am still packing my room... it's a terribly slow process considering the junk that I have accumulated over the past 3 years. I hate to pack... I love neat and tidy but i hate the process of maintaining it. That's why packing is such a cumbersome process now when i still have 2/3 of my room not packed...Haiyoh...

Packing room...

Friday, May 12

I had my last BBQ cum steamboat in Hall last night with my Hall friends. And then some of us played MJ til dawn. It's probably the last time we would be doing so bah.

I'm packing my room and I threw out many plastic bags of notes and junk. And yeah, as I was packing, many memories came back. Like, when was that photo taken, what events are in the Hall mags etc. And it was in this last year, and last sem for some of us, that we started to organise our own steamboats, BBQs and MJs in hall. Perhaps we all realised that if we do not initiate such plans in our final semester, we won't have a chance to do so again in Hall...

I think i am undergoing depression period now, with the end of school life and Hall life. There's this emptiness, this feeling of lost. And it gets worse with every item I pack in my room. But I know I have to carry on packing and clearing... And soon, we'll all no longer be neighbours in the same block...

再见了 nbs lec mates

Tuesday, May 9

It's my last paper tomorrow... Finally!
And then my main concern will be how to pack my room...

If only there's a "Cut" and "Paste" function, then I can simply cut everything in my room and paste them at home. Lol!

Meanwhile, I feel it is good to engage in some friendly banter in politics, since politics usually isn't discussed except under circumstances, like the GE in this case. I dun feel like saying more things now because I still have lots of stuff to study for AA304! Arrgh! But maybe u would like to visit the sites below for some interesting articles and views, pre- and post-elections. =)

http://www.yawningbread.org/
I like their articles and their coverage of rallies especially.

=> Eh, the podcasts, i mean, especially no. 6 http://media.libsyn.com/media/mb/tmbs-060501-the_persistently_non-political_podcast_no6.mp3

plus some others here and there...

Dun wait until the next election (Erm, 5 years later??) then read la... Because they did mention they would consider the influence of the internet on voters, so i suppose, they will find some way to FIX it.

Sianz. I can''t believe who won the award for MTV Favourite Artiste Singapore. Yanzi didn't win. JJ Lin didn't either. It's Taufik. O_O

I had hoped Yanzi would win again and voted for her as much as I could, as the website only permits voting every 5 minutes.
I also thought that JJ should be Yanzi's greatest competitor since his album sales has always been topping charts too.

Then... taufik won??? He got so many fans meh?? I question the intergrity of the polls.

Every disappointing result this weekend has to do with polls. Polls polls polls.
And yeah I got a disappointing result for class participation, thanks to turtle lee.

This past week has been a week of disappointing results!! The week of no fairness.

Need to get back to 306 le, otherwise my grade will only get lower...

Post election

The real player on my blog was giving me problem... There's this pop up window asking if u want to install a activeX control and I realised its caused by the embedded real player. Then the whole window closed by itself. Hmmm.

Anyway, I saw smint's post, and I would thought that if the main ruling party wanted more votes, they themselves should improve their image in the first place. Not physically. I was not going to vote for one who says he is thinking of ways to fix the opposition and buy his supporters over, and declares that he prefers a one-party dominance in the government. Doesn't this sound dictating? Or one who says that unemployed people should not approach the NTUC to look for jobs. Instead of focusing on more important daily issues, they chose to focus on gomez instead. What about the progress of SG and issues like healthcare, transport hikes etc? I dun think continually harping on the gomez issue were rational speeches by them. And the following week might be a good show, seeing how they will FIX gomez.

Speaking hokkien was just a way to get closer to the heartlanders. My parents speak Cantonese and me too, and I dun think we are beng. My friends' families and relatives speak dialect like Hokkien too, and speaking such languages was the best way to connect with them. Unless, well, the candidates are as chio as Glenda, who drew wolf whistles from the crowd...

The alternative parties do provide decent proposals too, for example, Low mentioned pegging the pay of ministers to the lowly paid SGreans. This would never be realised in SG when PAP continues to be the main ruling party and earns high salaries still. As for pap, lets take this example when khaw initially said means testing would be implemented in sg over the next few years. Then after a few days, he sorta backed out and Today reported that means testing would not be implemented in sg after all. And for PAP, their main proposals so far has been to upgrade lifts and estates. And SGreans will continue to live happily in our "wah so nice and new! every floor got life one!" estates, which is all that matters. I dun find this sincere. I feel that lift and estate upgrading is what should be done, election or not, to be fair to all SGreans. Instead, I want to know after I graduated, what will the gvt do to ensure that the cost of living would not escalate, and what are their long-term plans for SG. Estate upgrades are only short term plans and myopic in nature.

The PAP no doubt has aided in the economic progress of SG, but that was the earlier pap. What makes u think the pap candidates today are worthy of the job now? Too bad, all's over. I'm not targetting this to anyone, but I am beginning to understand more why Li Ao said SGreans are stupid. It's like, we've been living in this bubble that SG is the best and the gvt will continue to strive for us as long as we support them, and we just enjoy our estate upgrades and lifts on every floor.

I sound so pro-WP... Haha but no, I'm no WP Youth candidate here, but just an average S'porean k.

Author: Don » Comments:

Disappointed that WP didn't win Aljunied GRC. But at least they got 43.92%. And 33.87% in AMK where Lim Boon Heng expected 80%. Hope Sylvia will be a NCMP. She's so magnanimous, the first sentence of her speech was to congratulate the pap on winning aljunied.

And its so damn obvious our media is sibei biased... When Low and Chiam won Hougang and Potong Pasir respectively, the media actually zoomed into the pap losers, and not the opposition winners. No wonder our media was ranked 140th+ in the world. With such biasness, how reliable do u think were the reports n broadcasts by the local media leading up to this election? There were only a few rare worthy articles, like one by ms sumiko tan.

pap continues to be the ruling party over sg. I have nothing to say. At least the mandate is not as strong as the media would make it out to be. As for internal controls & checks on the gvt, i guess it would not happen in the near future...

fri pre-election

Friday, May 5

I really think I knew more about the elections through watching local news and ST, until I surfed online and realised I have been quite naive. Well because our local media does not exactly give us what we need to know, and always paints a more pleasant picture our main party. Like this example that an observant reader from HWZ forums noticed...

From the Straits Times...
If the opposition held 10 to 20 seats in Parliament, he would have to spend much more time thinking about how to counter them and 'how can I solve this week's problem, and forget about next year's challenges'.

From CNA...
"Right now we have Low Thia Khiang, Chiam See Tong, Steve Chia. We can deal with them. Suppose you had 10, 15, 20 opposition members in Parliament. Instead of spending my time thinking what is the right policy for Singapore, I'm going to spend all my time thinking what's the right way to fix them, to buy my supporters votes, how can I solve this week's problem and forget about next year's challenges?"

And one posted this...

I thought this would be the worst statement ever made. Threat 1 is no lift upgrading, threat 2 is no jobs. What is the primary objective of NTUC??

And i really like Sylvia Lim, she's definitely more zai than many of the new candidates fielded by the other ones. Her managing style after the hyped-up G-issue (which became a sage like the nkf) shows she knows what she and wp is doing.

Hmmm voting is like auditing somehow. In auditing, we need to know the industry and economic conditions first and foremost, and obtain external information. We can't just rely on internal information provided by the management. Likewise, we cannot just rely on the news reports and ST times but should make the effort to read up more. Like visiting each party's website and read their manifestos, reading forums and internet articles, and attending rallies if one is free. Of course the internet may not be reliable as well, but at least they are less biased and look at the other end where the local media does not, giving us a more complete picture of the prevailing situation.

smint predicted who will win our grc, but i hope for otherwise. haa...

Food!!

Thursday, May 4

I am full! Had supper just now, thanx to yk who went to buy for us. I ordered Moonlight Hor Fun, which I have not eaten for quite some time. Last time in army, we always eat esp when there was a craze for it. If u dunno what Moonlight Hor Fun is, it's actually dried fried hor fun, with an egg added in after the hor fun has been fried. Nice! But if u want to order, please dun say "Moonlight Hor Fun", I dun think the uncle will understand... say 月光 Hor Fun. Haha...

That was a prelude to my post... This post shall be dedicated to a very important part of our lives, which is, eh, food. Well I was looking through my folders and among many of my own photos, I found some non-human photos, mainly food. So I guess I should give the food an entry of their own. No humans, no animals, pure food.

Food 1
This was taken during one of my KTV sessions with smint, xm & wh. It should be taken in K-Box when we went on a friday evening (i think). Yep it was expensive, u bet, and we were unable to sing until late midnight (which wh thought we could). But we still went that evening becoz we know that we would not have anymore time to sing K other than that evening. Still we managed to sing quite a number of songs that we wanted that evening, and we adjourned for supper after we got chased out.
We need to K soon!

Food 2
It was BBQ night in Hall! Quite diu nian, but in my 3 years of Hall, this BBQ in my final sem in my final year was the first BBQ that my Orientation Group has in Hall! In fact it was us seniors BBQ-ing only, firstly coz the pit is quite small, and secondly we had been expecting our juniors to organise one BBQ, or steamboat, or outing, but in vain! So never mind lor, we have our own BBQ then. And we'll be having another soon after my 304!

My 2nd, and my last BBQ in hall!

Food 3
Taken during of my few platoon outings. This dessert was sponsored by our sgt lee since he was our platoon sgt for ns! We went for ktv earlier and then found this italian restaurant called Giuseppe where we had our dinner. I still remember my entry on this outing! I forgot the name of this dessert but I recalled that it tasted real good. Well doesn't it look good to u?

My next meeting with my platoon... ICT?? Hopefully one outing before it!

Food 4
A jug of beer. It was a celebration for grace's birthday @ Brewerkz and i liked that place! The food was great, except for smint's which was some catfish thingy. It's a jug of beer here but if u order a larger part, it comes in this distiller thingy that looks cool... It's supposed to be some sort of... i dunno... haa!

Food 5
Block Supper! We enjoyed hall and block suppers, when somehow i (or perhaps, we) would coincidentally forgot to eat dinner, and then go for hall/block suppers to fill our stomaches. It'll be another time of gathering cum feasting for us once again! Sometimes the suppers were good and satisfying, like the curry supper featured, which I dun think was too bad. The most recent one was quite good too: choco fondue and pizza.

Those were some of the food pics in my lappie. Wish u a fulfilling breakfast, lunch and dinner for the day ahead!

This is an interesting blog... Hohoho.
http://www.happycitizen.blogspot.com/

nothing much for me personally in my life... studying and watching tv. i seriously feel that although PA has caused Acc Group B to start school late, nbs need not push exams to start 2 weeks later too. Last week was a whole empty week, quite a lot of time to study, and i really think it would be good to have 312 exam last week, and then 304 + 306 on weds n fri this week. There's really lots of time to finish up everything since we had 2 quizzes each for 304 + 306 already. And yeah, it feels horrible when most ntu have finished their exams already, some others finishing this friday, but then hor group B still...

After 312 exam, i really think everyone was in a happy mode. The group A (and other misc) were celebrating the end of their exams, and group B would most prob be feeling, "Oh finally we have our exams... One down!" Sounds so poor thing hur hur >_<

pre Election

Tuesday, May 2

Just wondering...

if the market near my house wasn't burnt down 2 or 3 years ago, would they have bothered to use funds to renovate the market? Maybe yes, coz it was old. Maybe not, coz it poses much inconvenience, and my area is also a bit ulu....

i live in an old block where lift upgrading on every floor is impossible. Even so, I live on the 2nd storey. Tell me, what does the emphasis on lift upgrading have to do with me and my family? I know funds are used for other purposes, but when the majority of it will be spent on life upgrading that they are emphasizing so much on this, then our block how?? To be fair, they can like give us ikea vouchers to buy furniture for us to renovate our own houses mah...

But honestly, I have been away in home for so long. And I dun mean this exam period only. I mean for my NS years (2.5 yrs) and staying in hall (3yrs), so practically i was away from home for 5 years plus. Where will my sacred vote go to...?

Monday, May 1

It's evening time and these few days, there's this one mosquito that never fails to suck my blood at this time. Pissed... insecticide can't seem to get it away...

Anyway there's this new show coming on Mediacorp that seems to be looking good... at least better than the previous show with such a predictable ending... Obviously Rachel was somehow responsible for it, but there were no twists to it. My friends had better storylines, like Rachel was les etc...

Hope this show is good, although I dun think i will watch it after moving back home... Haa.

That Labour Day concert on Ch8 just now was great, especially the last 30 mins when Yanzi appeared! Woah! The first part when the Campus Superstar appeared seemed quite unrehearsed; Joice was trying hard to put up a good performance but her dancers seemed quite pathetic; Joi Chua was nice but it was an old-fashioned tactic to take out HP and wave liao. At least Yanzi was more pro by getting the crowds to do waves. And I thought Kelly's performace was interesting too with the african drums and er-hu, but "Love Me Again" was quite simple-to-sing, not really a spectacular song...
Hope Yanzi wins MTV Asia Award again this year, though JJ is a major threat. Love you, yanzi!

I am so looking forward to tomorrow. Is it finally my first paper? After all the mahjong sessions, all the TV, all the sleeping, and of course all the studying la, I finally get to the exams stage. Let's hope I played my tiles right and discarded the right topics so that I can get full-tais tomorrrow (& next week)!
