A few reasons why the NDP is worth watching this year...
1. It's the 'last' year where the NDP will be held in the National Stadium. Thereafter it will move to Padang as the stadium will undergo renovation works, which is likely to take a few years, maybe 4 to 5 years or even more...
2. It's the last year where our PM Goh will attend the NDP as our Prime Minister... He will officially hand over to DPM Lee on Aug 12. The special tribute to PM Goh was especially touching and memorable too...
3. My 1SIR CO (of 10th Mono), then-LTC Simon Lim is the parade commanding officer for this year's NDP. So watching my CO in action certainly brings back certain NS memories... He was quite a good CO, gives welfare but he also asks for results. He was quite approachable and seldom scolds us.
4. Kit Chan and JJ! Haven't seen Kit on stage for a very very long time... She still looks good and hearing her "Home" always gives me such a soothing and homely... Dun really like JJ's rendition but then, he's a talented artiste honestly. Although they were not singing live (which is always the case in NDPs), but watching them sing is such a wonderful feeling, esp seeing Kit... She has such a great stage presence, and seeing her rising on the platform was so "wow!"
5. The feeling of watching NDP. I would certainly appreciate it and enjoy it more if i was there, celebrating with people i know and people i dun know. And fireworks! One can only be mesmerized by a live display of fireworks, not by merely seeing them on TV.
Happy 39th Birthday Singapore!
